Australian Cattle Dog: the Loyal and Protective

The Australian Cattle Dog was originally bred to herd cattle, but today is also used in many capacities including search and rescue teams, guide dogs for the blind, therapy dogs, and police K9s.

Australian Cattle Dog

History

The Australian Cattle Dog was bred from cattle dogs from Australia’s outback regions. The first recorded use of this canine was by stockmen in Queensland in 1856. They may have crossed with dingoes to create a more effective herding dog for the Australian outback. In fact, some experts believe that dingoes were responsible for the creation of this breed (not native).

The Australian Cattle Dog is a loyal and intelligent dog that has been bred to work in the open, hot, and dry Australian bush.

An excellent working dog, with a high prey drive and will chase anything that moves. It is also very intelligent, making it easy to train. This combined with its bravery makes it an excellent working dog, as well as a great family pet.

Australian Cattle Dog has a large, shaggy coat that varies in color according to their environment. The most common colors are fawn, black, red, and brindle.

They have a thick double coat that protects them from cold weather and hot sun. They also have long tails that help them keep control over the cattle they are working with; this helps them keep their balance when rounding up cattle in the field or on a trail.
